emphysema, chronic bronchitis,
and asthma.
Individually tailored to each participant, the program's objective is
to return him or her to the highest possible level of function. It
focuses on pulmonary conditioning through a progressive exercise
regimen geared toward gradually increasing the participant's duration
and the intensity of exercise, and conducted under the supervision of
registered respiratory therapists and other health professionals with
the aid of electronic monitoring. In addition, comprehensive education and emotional support concerning
pulmonary disease are provided to both the patient and his or her
family in an effort to help the patient achieve an overall improved
quality of life.
